Students take management roles on the Calaveras High School Student Farm. They apply their knowledge of field crop production, environmental concerns, economic constraints, weather, soil fertility, varietal differences, cultural practices, food safety, good agricultural practices, and pest management while supporting and supervising first year Crop Production students in the day to day operation of the two acre farm. Students will rotate through different management positions including: fruit and vegetable production, flower production, greenhouse/nursery, livestock, food processing/preparation, irrigation, marketing, and sales. Students in this class will also have the opportunity to set up community classroom agreements with local farmers to learn first-hand from them on their farm. In addition, students in Crop Production II will do service projects at local elementary schools, working with sixth grade students to teach them how to take care of their school gardens.
